Assignment 4, Part A

The image above is from the movie “ Hunger Games”. It is an action movie which was first launched in 2012. The main character name of the movie is Katinss Everdenn who loves hunting and hiking in the woods outside of her district, which is district number 12. The Capital holds a game every year and Katniss’ sister is chosen to go to represent her district in the Hunger Games. Because it is her little sister, she decided to volunteer and go to play for the Hunger Games. During the game, she didn’t have any allies except for Peeta, the male tribute of district number 12, and Rue, a young girl from district 11. Rue ends up dying which made Katniss really mad, she tried her best to stay alive and to win the game. At the end Katniss and Peeta do not want to kill each other, “so Katniss takes out the poisonous berries. Just as she and Peeta pop them in their mouths, the announcer shouts for them to stop and declares them both winners.” (Collins, 2021) I decided to choose a scene where Katniss and Peeta were wearing clothes from the stylist Cinna during the opening ceremony.

I decided to choose this picture because it has a good mise en scene. The filmmakers show us a widescreen shot of the entire scene where we see everyone at once through the entire Reaping. The quality of the picture that I took is bad, but if you look at the movie you can see that the filmmaker is trying to show the emotions of the characters plus the reactions of the audience at the same time.

The costumes of the characters match the background. Peeta and Katniss are both wearing a black outfit with synthetic flames. The lighting looks depressive. It is dark but at the same time people are laughing, enjoying and cheering. However the filmmaker ried to use sophisticated application of colors.

Looking at the box office website, Hunger game was rated 34 in the top lifetime grosses. Their budget was $78,000,000 and they made 694,394,724 worldwide. There might not be some real life consequences from this specific action movie. This one is fictional and the Hunger Games and the characters in the games are forced to kill people. They do not encourage violence therefore I think that there will not be any real life problems.
