This image is a recreation of Nightwing in it’s natural habitat, the streets of Gotham City. The creator of this image is Ro and he has a very interesting Instagram profile with more posts than followers.
After observing Ron’s profile I realized that he is the one who makes his costumes, he categorícese himself as an artist, archer, cosplayer and paintballer that lives in the city of Toronto, Canada.
Ro plays different characters of the superhero world and posts a photoshoot of every new character costume he creates, as well as the process of making it. I have a sense that he gets very involved with each character, training himself to perform even with real life weapons such as guns and bows, this is to represent the skills that the real superhero would perform. I really wouldn’t mess with him.
The quality of his consumes is other level, using materials like metal shows that he is quite serious about the performance of the costume too.
Besides the characters that he plays, it is very hard to get to know who Ro is. He has a lot of flags from different countries in the description of his Instagram profile, and besides that, his profile is the characters that he plays. As I said before, it is impressive the quality to detail of each character. Now I have a new and more accurate sense of the impact that a fictional character can have on any human being. Ro has played different characters besides Nightwing, such as Red Hood and Assassin’s Creed.
His most recent project is based on Dick Grayson, better known as Robin in the Batman world, this character evolved with the years to become independent by the name of Nightwing. Over the eighty years that this character has been around he has been part of different DC groups, leading a few of them. Even tho Robin/Nightwing represents what the society would consider a very manly character, in 1954 Frederick Wertham criticized on his books Seduction of the Innocent the relationship between Dick Grayson and Bruce Wayne (Batman) as something that promoted homosexuality. This book gave a big turn to the comic books world making some regulations on violence, language, and other aspects which jeopardize the field for future comics. All this is specified in the 1954 Comics Code Authority.
To close this text I will like to point out that I, myself, don’t have much interest in fictional characters, I have never been (except for Harry Potter as young kid). In this search for characters playing fictional characters, I realized that the internet is full of examples of people who put real effort and passion to achieve a good level of similarity with different characters. The menu to choose from is so wide in the times that we live in that characters from all types of video games, comics, movies, tv shows, anime, etcetera, are being used for cosplay every single day.
